True Blue Ceremonies – Home

Independent Celebrant Katie Keen enjoys helping couples create their bespoke personal Wedding Celebration or Blessing Ceremonies in unusual and unique locations, as well as the more traditional wedding venues.  True Blue Ceremonies was established after Katie, an ex-Registrar of Marriages, observed that there was a need to offer a Celebrant-led Wedding Ceremony which could be tailored to each couple in order to make it totally personal for them, and enable them to celebrate their special day without restriction.

As an Independent Celebrant, Katie now enjoys meeting and getting to know her couples often many months before their Wedding Day and helping them celebrate their relationship and love with an individual, bespoke and often quite unique Wedding Ceremony.

Most of the Wedding Ceremonies she writes and performs are for clients who wish to exchange vows in an alternative setting, perhaps at home, fully outdoors or simply in a place that does not have a civil marriage licence.

Katie is often asked to perform a symbolic Wedding Ceremony for couples who have completed their legal marriage overseas where they might be resident, returning to the UK for a quintessentially “English” Wedding in front of friends and relatives.

A Celebrant-led Wedding ceremony is also a perfect option for multi-faith/inter-faith couples who would like to acknowledge one or more religious backgrounds but for whom a fully religious service is not possible and for which a civil secular marriage couldn’t cater.

Other couples will be planning a destination wedding abroad and wish to hold a Blessing amongst extended family and friends on their return, with another opportunity to dress up in their finery and celebrate their marriage.

Katie has worked at many beautiful Wedding venues across Kent, Sussex, Surrey and the South East, but her favourites tend to be the off-the-beaten track, less well-known places.  Any venue (whether it has a civil licence or not) is suitable for a Celebrant-led Wedding, so this means lots more business opportunities have opened up in the industry. Recent times have seen an upward trend in Weddings that are held completely outdoors, either in private gardens, meadows or woodland.  Weddings hosted in marquees, yurts and tepees are becoming very popular and are the perfect solution for a relaxed, festival-type feel or a village fete/tea party atmosphere. Katie is happy to fit in with whatever style of wedding her clients envisage – whether this is outdoors under an oak tree,  or in the grand surroundings of a stately home – her ceremonies are unique, meaningful and above all, personal.

True Blue Ceremonies was set up after Katie’s 8 years’ experience as a Registrar of Marriages, conducting and registering many hundreds of marriages and civil partnerships for happy couples in Kent.   She very much enjoyed her career and loved meeting all the lovely couples she married, but as a local Authority Registrar felt frustrated by the restrictions that existed, and at only being able to offer them a standard wedding script – as we all know, one size does not necessarily fit all!

Each Wedding ceremony script she produces is written from scratch, with elements and ideas drawn from the couple, as well as any symbolism they’d like to include – for instance, the inclusion of hand-fasting or the lighting of a unity candle.  Unlike a Humanist Celebrant, Katie is free to include religious prayer, hymns or any other symbolic aspects that may be important in a couple’s life into the ceremony script.

Wonderful wedding vows

Generally, legal Marriage Registration takes place separately, perhaps a few days before the Wedding Day itself.  Katie’s couples liken this to registering the birth of a child, or perhaps signing the legal deeds on a property. Once the short but necessary legalities are completed, a Wedding Celebration may be held anywhere, and at any time.
